What You’ll Learn
In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to:
- pair the TV app with the IPTV Buddy mobile app by scanning the QR code
- understand what data is synced to the TV
- recognize the main TV navigation
- choose or change the active TV profile
- resync profile data if TV content looks outdated
- log out of TV pairing if the TV is linked to the wrong account
- troubleshoot the most common empty-start and missing-content cases
Before You Start
Make sure you have:
- IPTV Buddy installed on the TV
- IPTV Buddy installed and set up on the phone
- an IPTV Buddy account connected in the mobile app
- at least one IPTV profile with provider access or an M3U list in the mobile app
- an internet connection on both the TV and the phone
If the TV app is not installed yet, start with the TV installation guide. This quick start begins after IPTV Buddy can be launched on the TV.
Tutorial Steps
1. Open IPTV Buddy on the TV
Start IPTV Buddy from the app overview on your TV device.
On first launch, the TV app shows Pair TV with IPTV Buddy and a QR code. The screen tells the user to open IPTV Buddy on the phone, go to Connections > Add TV device, and scan the code.
The TV app does not ask users to enter IPTV provider URL, username, or password with the remote. Provider details are managed through the mobile app and synced to the TV after pairing.
2. Pair the TV From the Phone
On the phone:
- Open IPTV Buddy.
- Go to Connections.
- Choose Add TV device.
- Scan the QR code shown on the TV.
The QR code is a temporary pairing helper. If the code does not work, reopen the TV pairing screen or restart the TV app to generate a fresh code, then scan again.
3. Wait for the First Sync
After pairing succeeds, the TV loads account and profile data. During this phase, the TV may briefly show a loading state before the main interface is ready.
Sync brings your IPTV Buddy setup to the TV, including profiles, provider access, favorites, My List, Continue Watching, playback progress, selected streams, and TV device settings.
The practical meaning: when you change favorites, My List, stream choices, or progress on another device, the TV can pick up those changes. If the TV was offline or looks stale, use Resync current profile from the TV settings.
4. Understand the Main TV Navigation
The TV app is optimized for remote control navigation.
The main navigation can contain:
- Live TV
- Recordings
- Series
- Video on Demand
- Continue Watching, only when there are continue-watching entries
- Settings
The screen uses columns. The left side is the main navigation. The middle area shows the selected category or settings group. Live TV uses a right-side list for channels when a playlist is selected. VOD, Series, Recordings, and Continue Watching use a wider content layout.
5. Choose the Active Profile
If the account has more than one profile, the active profile decides what the TV shows.
Open Settings > Profile > Current profile to switch between synced profiles. A profile can have its own provider credentials, M3U lists, favorites, VOD list, series list, EPG favorites, and progress state.
The TV also has Startup profile. This controls what happens when the TV app starts:
- Last used profile: start with the profile used most recently
- Ask on startup: choose a profile each time
- a specific profile: always start with that profile
Use Ask on startup when several people or several IPTV setups share the same TV.
6. Resync When Content Looks Outdated
Open Settings > Profile > Resync current profile if the TV does not show recent changes from the phone or Web Editor.
Use this when:
- favorites were changed on the phone but are not visible on the TV
- VOD or Series My List looks outdated
- the wrong profile data appears after a network interruption
- the TV was offline while changes were made elsewhere
If no phone is currently connected that can synchronize the profile, the TV can show No phone is currently connected that can synchronize this profile.
7. What To Do If Live TV Is Empty
If Live TV has no entries, the TV app tells the user to manage favorites in the IPTV Buddy mobile app or on the PC at https://editor.iptvbuddy.app.
Check these points:
- Is the TV paired with the correct IPTV Buddy account?
- Is the correct profile selected under Settings > Profile?
- Does the profile have Live TV favorites or playlists?
- Are the provider credentials still valid in the mobile app?
- Is the TV online?
- Is TV VPN Kill Switch enabled while the TV has no active VPN connection?
The TV app is meant to show organized favorites. Users do not build the entire raw provider channel structure from scratch on the TV.
8. Sign Out of TV Pairing
If the TV was paired with the wrong account or should be transferred to another account, open Settings > Info > TV pairing and choose Log out.
After logout, the TV returns to the QR pairing flow. Pair it again from the correct mobile app account.
Deleting a profile locally on the TV is different from logging out of TV pairing. Delete current profile removes local TV data for that profile. It does not delete the IPTV Buddy account.
9. Read the Header Status Indicators
The TV header can show short status hints for VPN, sync, provider connections, and VOD or Series catalog updates.
Use these hints when something does not start right away. They can explain whether the TV is waiting for sync, blocked by VPN Kill Switch, using provider connections, or still updating catalog data.
Troubleshooting
The TV Shows Only a QR Code
The TV is not paired yet. Open IPTV Buddy on the phone, go to Connections > Add TV device, and scan the QR code shown on the TV.
The QR Code Does Not Work
Generate a fresh QR code by reopening the TV pairing screen or restarting the TV app. Pairing codes are temporary, so an old code can stop working.
The TV Is Paired but Content Is Missing
Check the active profile under Settings > Profile. Then use Resync current profile. If Live TV is empty, make sure favorites were created on the phone or in the Web Editor.
The TV Is Blocked by VPN Kill Switch
If TV VPN Kill Switch is enabled and the TV has no active VPN connection, playback and network updates can be blocked. Connect the VPN on the TV or disable the TV VPN Kill Switch from the paired account/device settings.
FAQ
Do I Need To Enter IPTV Credentials on the TV?
No. Provider credentials and M3U lists are managed in the mobile app and synced to the TV after pairing.
Why Does the TV Show a QR Code?
The QR code links this TV device to the IPTV Buddy account on the phone. It avoids typing account or provider data with the remote.
Why Are My Channels Missing After Pairing?
The TV mainly shows organized favorites. Create or update favorites on the phone or in the Web Editor, then resync the current profile on the TV.
How Do I Change the Active Profile on TV?
Open Settings > Profile > Current profile and choose the profile you want to use.
How Do I Pair the TV With Another Account?
Open Settings > Info > TV pairing > Log out. The TV returns to the QR pairing screen and can be paired again from another phone account.
