What You’ll Learn

In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to:

  • start playback from Live TV
  • start playback from Favorites
  • start VOD playback
  • start series episode playback
  • make VOD and series available offline
  • understand common playback messages
  • troubleshoot subscription, provider, VPN, download, and connection-limit problems

This tutorial is only about playback on the mobile phone. TV installation, TV usage, and TV-specific playback behavior belong in the separate TV tutorial area.

Before You Start

Make sure:

  • your IPTV Buddy account is connected
  • your subscription is active
  • your active profile contains Xtream Codes credentials or an M3U list
  • at least one relevant category is selected
  • this phone is not blocked by VPN Kill Switch
  • your provider account is active
  • this phone has enough free storage for offline downloads
  • the phone has an internet connection while downloading content

If playback is blocked because of VPN Kill Switch, open the account, sync, and security tutorial for the full explanation.

Offline downloads are available for VOD and Series in the mobile app. Live TV recordings are handled separately on the TV app.

Tutorial Steps

1. Start Live TV Playback

Open Live TV.

Choose a category or use search to find a stream.

Tap the stream to open its action menu.

Tap Play.

IPTV Buddy starts playback on this phone if the phone is allowed to connect and a playable provider source is available.

If Play is disabled or playback does not start, check the troubleshooting section below.

2. Start Playback from Favorites

Open Favorites.

Open a favorite list.

Tap a stream and choose Play.

Favorites are often the easiest way to start playback because they contain only channels you selected yourself.

If you renamed a stream or selected a different Source inside Favorites, IPTV Buddy uses your organized favorite setup for that stream.

3. Start Playback from EPG

Open EPG from Live TV or Favorites.

Tap a programme to open the programme detail screen.

If the programme is currently live and the stream can be played, the detail screen can show Play now.

Tap Play now to start the live stream on the phone.

If the programme is not currently live, use Set reminder instead of Play now.

4. Start VOD Playback

Open Video On Demand.

Choose a category, use search, or open Watchlist or Continue watching.

Tap a movie to open the action menu.

Choose Play to start the movie on your phone.

If the movie has saved progress, the action menu can also offer Continue watching. Use it to resume from the saved position.

5. Start Series Playback

Open Series.

Choose a category or use search.

Tap a series and choose Episodes.

Choose the episode you want to watch.

Tap the episode and choose Play.

If the episode has saved progress, IPTV Buddy can resume from that progress. The Series area can also show Continue watching for series episodes with stored progress.

6. Make VOD Available Offline

Open Video On Demand.

Choose a category, use search, or open Watchlist or Continue watching.

Tap a movie to open the action menu.

Choose Make available offline.

IPTV Buddy starts the download and can show Download started.

While the download is active, the action can change to Cancel download. If the download fails, use Restart download.

When the movie is downloaded, the VOD category list can show Downloaded. Open Downloaded to find VOD items that are available on this phone without an internet connection.

To delete the local file, open the movie action menu and choose Remove offline content. This removes the offline copy from this phone, not the provider item.

7. Make Series Available Offline

Open Series.

To download a whole series, tap a series and choose Make available offline.

To download only one episode, open Episodes, tap the episode, and choose Make available offline.

The Series area can show Downloaded when offline episodes exist. A series row can show how many episodes are downloaded.

When you open a downloaded series from the Downloaded category, IPTV Buddy focuses on episodes available offline. If an episode is not downloaded, the app can show that the episode is not available offline.

Use Cancel download for active downloads and Remove offline content when you want to delete downloaded episodes from this phone.

8. Use Continue Watching

Continue watching appears in the VOD and Series areas when playback progress exists.

Use it when you stopped a movie or episode before finishing it.

The list can show progress text and a progress bar.

For VOD, the action menu can offer:

  • Continue watching
  • Remove from “Continue watching”

For Series, the action menu can offer:

  • Continue watching
  • Remove from “Continue watching”
  • Reset playback progress

Use Clear continue watching only when you want to remove all entries from the current Continue watching list.

9. Understand Why Playback May Not Start

Playback can be blocked or fail for several common reasons:

  • this phone is blocked by VPN Kill Switch
  • no provider credentials are available
  • no playable credentials are available
  • all provider credentials are in use
  • the provider is unavailable
  • the provider connection failed
  • subscription validation is unavailable
  • the subscription was rejected by the server
  • an M3U stream could not be opened
  • an offline download is missing, incomplete, or was removed

The app shows messages for these cases, such as:

  • Blocked by VPN kill switch
  • No provider credentials available
  • No playable credentials available
  • All provider credentials are in use
  • Provider unavailable
  • Unable to open this stream.
  • This episode is not available offline.

The message tells you which part to check first.

10. Understand Provider Connection Limits

Many IPTV providers limit the number of simultaneous streams.

If all available provider connections are already in use, IPTV Buddy may not start a new Xtream stream and can show that all provider credentials are in use.

If the provider temporarily blocks a connection after another device was active, IPTV Buddy can show: Your IP is currently blocked by the provider because another connection from a different device was active recently.

In this case:

  • stop playback on other devices
  • wait until the provider releases the previous session
  • try again later
  • check whether your provider allows more simultaneous connections
  • use Multi Credentials only if your provider gave you additional credentials

11. Check Connection Status

Open Connections.

The Connection Status card helps you see whether the app can reach IPTV Buddy and your IPTV provider. API refers to the IPTV Buddy connection, and Provider refers to your IPTV provider connection.

The This Phone card shows whether playback is ready on this phone or blocked by a setting such as VPN Kill Switch.

If the phone is Blocked, check whether VPN Kill Switch is enabled and whether VPN is connected.

12. Check Profile & Provider

Open Profile & Provider.

In the XTREAM section, use Test Connection if the app offers it.

If provider credentials changed, update:

  • Provider URL
  • Username
  • Password

When provider content changed, use Sync Content if the app offers it. This can refresh categories, streams, VOD, and series data.

For M3U playback, make sure the M3U list is still present and the M3U URL is reachable.

13. Check Subscription

Open Settings.

In Subscription & Account, check the Subscription row.

Use Manage to open the Subscription page.

If you already purchased a subscription but the app does not show it on this phone, use Restore purchases on the Subscription page.

Playback can be unavailable when the app cannot validate an active subscription.

Troubleshooting

Play Is Disabled

Check Connections. If This Phone is Blocked, fix the VPN Kill Switch state first. Also check that your account, subscription, and provider setup are active.

The App Says Blocked by VPN Kill Switch

VPN Kill Switch is enabled for this phone, but the phone is not connected through VPN. Connect the VPN or turn off VPN Kill Switch.

The App Says All Provider Credentials Are in Use

Your provider connection limit is currently exhausted. Stop playback on other devices, wait briefly, or use additional provider credentials only if your provider supplied them.

The App Says Provider Unavailable

Check your internet connection, provider credentials, and provider availability. Use Test Connection in Profile & Provider when available.

The App Says Unable to Open This Stream

This can happen with M3U streams or streams the phone cannot open. Check the M3U URL, try another stream, or contact your provider if the stream itself is broken.

The Download Action Is Disabled

Check whether provider traffic is allowed on this phone. If VPN Kill Switch blocks the phone, connect VPN first or change the VPN Kill Switch setting.

A Download Failed

Check your internet connection, available storage, subscription state, provider availability, and VPN Kill Switch. Then open the item action menu and choose Restart download when available.

Downloaded Content Is Missing

Open the Downloaded category in Video On Demand or Series. If the item is not there, the download may not have completed or the offline copy may have been removed from this phone.

Playback Works on One Network but Not Another

Check VPN, provider IP restrictions, and whether the provider blocks or limits certain networks.

FAQ

Why does playback not start?

Check the message shown by IPTV Buddy. Most playback issues are related to VPN Kill Switch, provider credentials, provider limits, subscription state, or an unavailable stream.

What does Blocked by VPN kill switch mean?

VPN Kill Switch is enabled for this phone, but the phone is not connected through VPN. IPTV Buddy blocks IPTV on this phone until VPN is connected or the kill switch is turned off.

What does All provider credentials are in use mean?

Your provider currently has no free connection available for a new stream. Stop playback elsewhere or wait until the provider releases a session.

Can I play from Favorites?

Yes. Open Favorites, choose a favorite list, tap a stream, and choose Play.

Can I resume a movie or episode?

Yes. Use Continue watching when IPTV Buddy has saved playback progress for the item.

Can I watch VOD or series without internet?

Yes, after the movie or episode has finished downloading. Open Downloaded in Video On Demand or Series and start playback from there.

Does Remove offline content delete the provider item?

No. It deletes only the downloaded copy stored on this phone.

What should I do if an M3U stream cannot be opened?

Try another stream from the same list and check whether the M3U URL is still valid. If only one stream fails, the provider stream may be broken.
